day 359

well, last night was a bit interesting… i stayed up until 5AM wrapping gifts and uploading that youtube video, and while doing so, my dad woke up! so that was kinda strange seeing him up… and he was like, really… haha. so i went to sleep soon after.

woke up around 10am and began the gift exchange by getting my sisters together and giving the first gift to our parents! the first thing they always wonder is what could we possibly get that we would want? and well, we decided to prepare for them a movie night! with all the food/snacks they love along with karate kid =) actually, that’s what my dad wanted to see, so it was pretty easy finding him a gift. we also put in some stuffed disney dolls for added cuteness :P

next, we went downstairs to surprise our grandma with her gift as well! she wondered the same thing, but once she saw the leopard print snuggie, she was surprised… to say the least :P haha, she had no idea what it was at first, and thought she was supposed to wear it like a jacket. but, i THINK she liked it, based on her positive reaction, and it came with a booklight as well :P

finally, my sisters exchanged gifts with one another, and i gave karen the despicable me movie & poster, along with mr. prickle pants! tiffany got her a sing-a-ma-jig. that got annoying VERY fast. haha. for tiffany, i got her some oil pastels? (i have no idea…) from the MFA, along with some origami and a cute pencil case :) and karen got her a moose hat! kinda jealous… and for me, karen got me some speakers and tiffany made me some pokemon/mario artwork from clay and gave me a toy story 3 poster! hehe, it was a pretty fun exchange =)

then, i spent a couple hours playing video games… got bored. took a nap. then showered at like 3pm. and then ate lunch at 4pm. and then did more wood work with my dad! we finished another dolley for tomorrow, and we were pretty efficient =) i really like the times when we just work together on projects, though sometimes, i have to get over my pride :/ it’s funny, i definitely know the lessons on humility, but learning them is another thing… man, i gotta work on that.

oh right, i checked my grades yesterday and the professor realizing that he had switched my grade with my sister’s… and looking back, i feel conflicted. because i got a higher grade than her… yet my gpa doesn’t really matter now and her’s does… doh. but then again, i’m pretty sure nobody wants that kind of pity when it comes to grading… so, ugh, i guess it happens :/

after finishing the dolly, we got ready for the karate kid movie night! well, my grandma and mom were busy… so it ended up just being my dad, my sisters, and me. but it was fun! and, obviously, when it came to the parts of training, all i could think about was how my dad would mentor me because it’d be like the same thing: he’d tell something that i would think is irrelevant to the task at hand, and the hardest thing for me to do is to just obey without asking tons of questions. ah yes, and my dad also enjoyed telling us about what’s going to happen in the movie, even though he had never seen it and the three of us had :P probably because these are the lessons he likes to teach us…so of course, he loved the movie :)

whew, it was a good and relaxing christmas day, though probably a bit unique with that wood working… kinda made me feel like a carpenter. hmmmmm…. jesus? :P well, the church move is tomorrow! and i’m gonna start reviewing this past year starting tomorrow hopefully. and i want to clean up my room… and just get things in order for the start of the new year! wow, so much to do…and i gotta catch up on people’s tumblrs :P

day 327

well, i missed my first class :P and the second one was incredibly boring… but the thought of just finishing and being on break got me through it! heading back to my room, steph came over and we had dumplings for lunch. then, i worked on my kairos leader application. we then left my place because steph was going to get ready for dinner tonight while i headed over to the 90 guys suite.

at 90, i was talking with jae lee about what to do for thanksgiving because he’s gonna come eat with my family =) clarified a couple details and also talked with dong & hanyin who were leaving tomorrow. sadly, i think only jae is staying at the suite the entire break… but i guess that’s his choice! anyways, i’m STILL surprised at the fact that people ask me for dating advice! seriously?? this is my first experience and i’m very much in the learning phase… i’m really hoping i’m doing things right, but i know i’m bound to mistakes (hopefully nothing too disastrous!) because dating is entirely new for the both of us. but, i did try to offer what help i could give, and it was encouraging to realize that my friends value my advice. :)

returned back to my room and met up with steph because tonight was going to be exciting or scary… steph is going to meet my parents! and my grandma! haha. tonight my family was going to go celebrate my grandma’s birthday at minado, and my parents were wondering whether steph wanted to come. she initially was busy, but was able to come, and despite feeling very nervous about doing so, i think the actual experience was much better than expected! if anything, we did a lot of laughing & eating :P and you really can’t go wrong with that. i asked sean d and my roommate nick about advice in such areas before this happened, but they had opposite spectrum ideas about it, so i realized that this decision depended on where we were relationally. and i think we were ready! (gosh, in just two weeks of dating!) i think i was most afraid of my family acting strange… :P but that didn’t seem to be the case, haha. it was either that case or perhaps they would grill her with questions, but i avoided that by making sure i didn’t leave her alone randomly to get food :P i think the dining experience was just to get everyone accustomed to one another because if it all works out, they’ll be seeing a lot more of her and conversations will be natural and all ;)

returning to bc, i packed a couple things for my parents to first bring back home, and then steph & i headed to her place to watch enchanted! (wow we’ve watched a lot of movies this past week!) also, jeannette & mary jo were sleeping over because they were leaving early in the morning with liz, and it was fun watching the movie with all of them. it was a good movie, but part of me was expecting more… i’m not sure exactly what though. i did like the soundtrack, and i’m glad nick gave it to me :P i especially love the jon mclaughlin one! =) we ended the night by watching disney channel as always, haha.

anyways, i’m looking forward to cleaning up the suite after my roommate leaves, because i procrastinated today and was just hoping everything would pile up tomorrow so i could finish it all in one go! haha, i don’t know why i’m so excited about this…

day 323

well, it’s been 6AM for the third time this past week, and i can confirm that the sun does not rise at that time… what a bummer. at least now i know that the T begins operating at 5AM on saturdays. and to my shocking surprise, i walk back to my room to my roommate still awake, working on an assignment due later in the day. haha, we have such strange yet similar schedules…

anyways, let’s begin with the morning…made it to my 9AM class being only a couple minutes late. saw priya & maryjo at the Rat, and said bye to priya as she was leaving for home later in the day. also met with kathie and she seemed to have had a similar rough week of sleep. :/ but, i realized that i couldn’t really function, i decided to head back and nap and did so all the way through physio :P i got ready in time for dev bio, but i’m not really sure why i went… i wasn’t very focused although the case study was very interesting! …and unethical. haha…

got lunch with justin at the rat, and we talked and then went to get mail. actually, he got mail… i’m not sure why i don’t :/ (i think my free musician’s friend/sweetwater subscriptions have forgotten me…). then i got jumped by jen li in the quad for not letting her know the details of the first date. thankfully, justin saved me, and we parted ways as he went to print his ticket and eventually get on his plane and i had to catch a bus to meet dan!

i managed to pack very quickly, and got on the same bus as dan.. though it was FREAKING packed! we talked on the way there, and i really enjoy these times and conversations because we can’t really do much else on our way to north station. :P plus, then the ride doesn’t feel lonely! anyways, we made it to north station in time for dan to actually get to his volunteer place on time. =) and i just napped on the train…wow. i almost overslept at the last stop but thankfully someone woke me up! never did that before… and that would’ve sucked because i would’ve headed back to boston haha.

when i got home, i was surprised to see my grandma! it totally slipped my mind that she would be staying with us, but i was really happy to see her =) we all had dinner together, and then i got ready for youth group.

at rofl, i did some follow up on the whole welcome night/conference, and since it was a slightly smaller group, it was much easier to talk to all of them. i’m really hoping that more leaders will rise up, and that i will know how to put them in the right positions! they seem eager, and i can’t wait to see what’s gonna happen later this year =)

then, i headed back to BC after getting gas and pumping air into the tires. since it was a football day tomorrow, i had to find parking outside of campus, and i was able to park my car at steph’s place =) that way, it’ll be easier for me to control when i can go back after the concert tomorrow! well, inside the house, i met hemali, and found out that she actually came from burlington! for some reason, i just thought she was from new jersey, but she lives really close to me. however, it got stranger! i mentioned i was from chelmsford, and she knew a friend named rishi doshi who lived there… and it was strange because rishi is my NEIGHBOR. whoaaaaaaa. i guess they dated last year, but since i don’t really hang out with anyone on my road, i wouldn’t have known that. no. freaking. way. hahahaha, a small world!

then, steph & i went to gate to visit diane & maryjo. then we headed to the harry potter viewing, and we originally planned to just drop by…and that didn’t happen. perhaps it was the magic sticks (pretzels & SUGAR) or the butter beer (liquid apple pie!), but we watched the end of the 6th harry potter movie, and then watched the entire 1st one. since i had never watched a HP movie and only read 4 of the books…maybe knowing how the 6th movie ended and being refreshed by the 1st movie plot could help me in understanding the 7th :P it was a fun night, though most people left after the 6th movie. and people were VERY tired… as there was ample snoring in the background =) but i managed to stay awake and was intrigued by the 1st movie because it felt very nostalgic. at least, the parts i remembered from the book, which wasn’t much…

after the end of the movie, it was near 5AM, and well, perhaps that was a bad decision to watch that 2nd movie and forgo sleep, but…bad decisions make good stories? :P i forget where i saw that, haha. and, well as we cleaned up the place with dasom, sarang, & christine kim, we realized that the person responsible for storing the stuff… was no where to be found! i never saw john byun the entire time i was there, but thankfully, i was able to get a hold of justin! i was not sure if he would be awake despite the 3 hour time difference, but i got the room code, and we were able to save a LOT of hassle by putting the stuff in his place. whew!

finally, the night ended as i walked steph back to her place because it was so late! oh boy, i dont think i really want to go to the game tomorrow… oh well.

day 175

what the. i just posted this and it got erased! lame…this hotel internet thing needs to get authenticated everyday and it messed up the posting. doh!

anyways, i slept in today. i realized that it’s really hard to wake up without the sun shining through. i had to fight to wake up in pitch black because the shades were over the window…

got lunch with my grandma, my aunt, and my uncle. we ate at a chinese restaurant. and even though it was supposedly rated top 100 chinese restaurants in the world, i was not impressed…like the soup was so sour! more sour than sweet and sour soup or sour patch kids… ew. and everything else was decent. i still like boston’s china town better :)

went back to the hotel to take a nap. when i woke up, i got some work done: shaw retreat, emailing fr. leahy, dr. bob…then we headed to the church at 5:30 for the retreat. but when we got there, we were told that we missed the bus! it came at 4:00, but thankfully, there was someone at the church who could send us to the Jubilee retreat center, which was only 10 minutes away.

when we got there, we were impressed! the place was HUGE! and inside, there was a basketball court, tons of videogames/TVs, and a nice sound system and stage. and the entire place was very modern, with low hanging light fixtures, weirdly shaped walls, and interesting colors. i can’t believe this is for the youth. well, the youth of the jubilee church. i think the name is called urgency. their logo is kinda boring… :/

well, we got tacos for dinner, and headed inside for the evening service. it began with a video that had clips talking about DESTINY, the main topic of the conference. my favorite had to be zoolander :) but braveheart and lord of the rings were nice too. worship was led by the hendrickson family, and that was pretty cool. the drums, piano, and vocals were rocking! oh and i think they help out with IHOP in kansas city, though i never heard of them previously… for the message, pastor mark hendrickson spoke, and he talked about the destiny of Joseph. it was good, but at times, i would get confused about where he was going with certain ideas… and he kind of ended it at the part where joseph gets jailed… errrr. haha oh well. anyways, after the service, i kinda felt fake because i was being “interviewed” about how i liked the message, and i was like GREAT! even though i really felt more like… oh i see. actually, i tried to sidestep the message by giving the excuse that i was shy, but my sister didn’t realize what i was trying to do, and she was like OH SURE, we’ll do it. ohhhhh boy. i don’t really want to see myself on the screen tomorrow. gg owned.

well tonight was fun. i got to see some friends i hadn’t seen for some time, like dave and nate sun. and i got to meet up with johnny and jennifer from the winter retreat! i wonder what tomorrow’s gonna be like…
